cyber security start-ups can use the commercial hub to expand their maltego capabilities in order to find more information about their victims and to find out more about their business operations. this includes investigating regulatory bodies like the fda or the cftc, but also financial institutions or energy companies. and this list grows every day.

i'll be posting a tutorial soon on how to use maltego to search for information on malicious websites or twitter accounts, but for now let me point you in the direction of this maltego wiki page which contains information about most of the things you might need to know about maltego.

the available filters in maltego are "language," "datetime," "keywords," "source," and "hashtags." if you enter a language, maltego will search for that language in the websites it finds. "datetime" allows you to search for a date range, for example, a day, a week, or a month. the "keywords" filter allows you to search for a specific phrase or word. "source" allows you to search for a source like a news site or a blog, and "hashtags" allows you to search for a specific hashtag on twitter.

another powerful way to use maltego and other tools is to combine them into scripts that do many things. this is especially powerful when you combine several tools into a pipeline. these tools might be in different programs, on the same computer, or in the cloud. some examples include: searching twitter for keywords related to the subject of the investigation scraping a website for interesting information looking for public-facing databases that might contain useful information using a spreadsheet to organize and store data organizing historical data using python to analyze data 84d34552a1
