commodore

A complete solution for node.js command-line interfaces. Commodore is an extension of commander from TJ Holowaychuk, which is in turn inspired by Ruby's commander.

Installation

$ npm install commander

Option parsing

Since commodore is an extension of commander, all commander options are supported.

.demand(optionName)

Demand an option optionName

program
.option('-f, --foo <foo_type>', 'type of foo')
  .demand('foo')

.loadable(optionName)

Attempt to load optionName from the JSON config file declared in .load

program
.option('-f, --foo <foo_type>', 'type of foo')
  .loadable('foo')

.oneof(optionName, choices)

Demand that the value of optionName be one of choices

program
.option('-f, --foo <foo_type>', 'type of foo')
  .oneof('foo', ['bar', 'baz', 'buz'])

.comboof(optionName, choices)

Demand that the value of optionName be one or more combinations of choices

program
.option('-f, --foo <foo_type>', 'type of foo')
  .comboof('foo', ['bar', 'baz', 'buz'])

Combinations are joined with +, distinct options are joined with a , Possible matches:

  • bar
  • buz
  • bar+baz
  • bar+baz+buz
  • bar+baz,buz

.load(configPath)

Load loadable options from a configuration file.

program
.option('-f, --foo <foo_type>', 'type of foo')
  .loadable('foo')
  .load('~/.commodore/config.json')

Why the fork/extension?

I love commander, I also love optimist. Both are missing features. TJ does not want to add complexity to the commander library, so I created a library on top of his to fulfill my own needs.
