We’re excited to share that Socket is joining the OpenJS Foundation as a Silver member.
OpenJS plays a central role in supporting the JavaScript ecosystem, providing vendor-neutral governance and long-term stewardship for projects like Node.js and other critical technologies that power the web. We’re proud to support that work.
JavaScript runs on open source. The ecosystem thrives because of maintainers, contributors, and communities who build and sustain the tools developers rely on every day.
Supporting open source is not just a business initiative for us. It’s in our blood. Many of our engineers at Socket are active maintainers and long-time contributors within the JavaScript community. Collectively, the projects we maintain account for roughly 10% of all npm downloads. We are deeply committed to participating in the standards and discussions that shape the future of the web.
“Being a part of the OpenJS Cross Project Council, I see firsthand how important shared governance, open standards, and practical security work are for developers,” said Jordan Harband, Open Source Architect at Socket.
“Joining the OpenJS Foundation reflects how seriously Socket takes the long term health of the JavaScript ecosystem. We’re excited to collaborate more closely with the community to help make the JavaScript supply chain safer and more resilient for everyone.”
That commitment extends to the security work at the core of what we do.
Strengthening the JavaScript Supply Chain#
As JavaScript projects scale, their dependency graphs grow more complex. Modern applications routinely depend on hundreds or thousands of packages. That scale creates enormous velocity. But if we want to keep this ecosystem healthy and open for innovation, we have to work together to make it secure.
OpenJS helps ensure that key JavaScript projects remain sustainable and well-governed. At Socket, we focus on improving the security and reliability of the open source supply chain so developers can safely build on that foundation.
“The OpenJS Foundation aligns closely with our mission to make open source safer for everyone,” Socket founder and CEO Feross Aboukhadijeh said. “JavaScript developers rely heavily on shared code, and we believe strengthening the ecosystem requires collaboration, transparency, and shared responsibility.”
Joining OpenJS is a natural next step for us, and we’re ready to work alongside other member organizations to keep pushing the web forward.
"We're excited to welcome Socket to the OpenJS Foundation," OpenJS Foundation Executive Director Robin Bender Ginn said. "They've been showing up for this community for a long time, and their work supports the JavaScript ecosystem in really meaningful ways."
