Advanced tools
Nagios is 15 years old and sucks, so it's time to reinvent that wheel.
The primary advantage Nagios has over every other monitoring system is that it has an enormous ecosystem of existing plugins for every possible use, and nobody wants to spend time writing new ones. To overcome this, Agent is backwards-compatible with existing nagios plugins; it can run them and correctly translate their output into a format usable by the (as yet unwritten) NodeNag Server. It can also run "native" NodeNag plugins, which are better in every possible way apart from mostly not existing.
NodeNag Agent is equivalent to the NRPE agent you use in nagios: you install it on every box, and it provides an interface for a central server to get status from.
