create-gitcms

Bootstrap .gitcms for a GitCMS project.

create-gitcms helps you detect site roots, infer Markdown collections, and generate the initial config for single-site repos and monorepos.

GitCMS is a Git-powered CMS with a Notion-like editor. Every save becomes a real Git commit. Learn more at gitcms.dev.

Usage

Preferred interactive entrypoint from your repository root:

npm init gitcms@latest

Direct execution:

npx create-gitcms@latest

Examples:

npm init gitcms@latest
npx create-gitcms@latest --yes
npx create-gitcms@latest --website-url https://example.com
npx create-gitcms@latest --mode monorepo --site-root apps/docs --site-root apps/blog

What it does

  • Detects whether the repo looks like a single-site setup or a monorepo
  • Finds likely Markdown or MDX collections
  • Infers frontmatter shape from sample content
  • Suggests framework-aware defaults for media and content paths
  • Writes .gitcms manifest and per-site config in the correct location

Notes

  • .gitcms is meant to be generated by GitCMS tooling, not hand-written.
  • For product setup after config generation, continue in the GitCMS web app.
