The postinstall hook causes the package's main module to execute at install time. This behavior can be legitimate (setup tasks) but also enables a wide range of malicious actions (telemetry/exfiltration, arbitrary command execution, filesystem changes, network callbacks, persistence). If you cannot audit the code, avoid running npm install in privileged or production environments and consider running in an isolated sandbox/CI with network/file restrictions.
