Deep Focus: Circadian Edition
An adaptive theme system synchronized with circadian rhythms—automatically adjusting both the user interface colors and syntax highlighting for Rustand Solidity code throughout the day to enhance visual comfort, reduce eye strain, and support sustained focus during development.

🌓 What Makes This Special?
Deep Focus: Circadian Edition is not just another theme—it's a scientifically-designed color system that adapts to your body's natural rhythms. Each variant is carefully crafted to:
- 🌅 Support your circadian rhythm with time-appropriate color temperatures
- 👁️ Reduce eye strain during long coding sessions
- 🧠 Enhance focus with optimal contrast levels for each time of day
- 😴 Protect your sleep by minimizing blue light exposure at night

🎨 Color Philosophy
Each theme follows strict scientific principles:
Morning - Warm Sand
Primary Background: [#282520](https://github.com/rokeyxuhleremny1/deep-focus-circadian-theme/issues/282520) (warm charcoal)
Primary Text: #f0e8e0 (warm white)
Accent: #a88b6d (sandy beige)
Focus: Low blue light, warm tones
Day - Soft Charcoal
Primary Background: #1c1f24 (neutral charcoal)
Primary Text: #e8edf2 (cool white)
Accent: #8ab4f8 (soft blue)
Focus: High contrast, neutral temperature
Evening - Moonlight Blue
Primary Background: #1d1f26 (cool charcoal)
Primary Text: #e0e4ec (soft white)
Accent: #9aa9d6 (lavender blue)
Focus: Reduced brightness, calming tones
Night - Twilight Gray
Primary Background: [#131216](https://github.com/rokeyxuhleremny1/deep-focus-circadian-theme/issues/131216) (deep gray)
Primary Text: #d8d2e0 (muted lavender)
Accent: #a396b8 (warm purple)
Focus: Minimal blue light, sleep-friendly
🔧 Configuration
Disable Auto-Switching
If you prefer manual control:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+P (or Cmd+Shift+P)
- Type "Deep Focus: Toggle Auto Theme Switch"
- Or use the toggle in the welcome screen
Customize Time Ranges
Currently, time ranges are fixed for optimal circadian support:
- Morning: 6:00 - 12:00
- Day: 12:00 - 18:00
- Evening: 18:00 - 22:00
- Night: 22:00 - 6:00
📊 Recommended Settings
For the best experience, add these to your settings.json:
{
"editor.semanticHighlighting.enabled": true,
"editor.bracketPairColorization.enabled": true,
"editor.cursorBlinking": "smooth",
"editor.cursorSmoothCaretAnimation": "on",
"workbench.colorTheme": "Deep Focus - Day (Soft Charcoal)"
}
🧪 Science Behind the Design
Circadian Rhythm Support
- Morning: Warm colors mimic sunrise, gradually increasing alertness
- Day: Cool, bright colors support peak cognitive performance
- Evening: Reduced blue light begins melatonin production
- Night: Minimal blue light (<2200K) protects sleep quality
Eye Comfort
- All themes maintain WCAG AAA contrast ratios (7:1+)
- Carefully balanced brightness levels
- Reduced color saturation for extended viewing
- Optimized for both bright and dark environments

💡 Tips for Best Results
- Keep auto-switching enabled for optimal circadian support
- Use with f.lux or Night Light for complete blue light management
- Adjust monitor brightness to match ambient lighting
- Take regular breaks - even the best theme can't replace rest!
- Pair with proper lighting - avoid coding in complete darkness
