It includes support for IAM and other AWS services in a single package, unlike @aws-sdk/client-iam which is modular. The aws-sdk is less modular but can be easier for simple applications that need multiple AWS services.
While not for AWS, google-auth-library is similar in functionality for Google Cloud. It provides authentication and authorization functionalities for Google Cloud services, similar to how @aws-sdk/client-iam manages IAM for AWS. Identity and Access Management
Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a web service for securely controlling access to Amazon Web Services services. With IAM, you can centrally manage users, security credentials such as access keys, and permissions that control which Amazon Web Services resources users and applications can access. To install the this package, simply type add or install @aws-sdk/client-iam using your favorite package manager:

To send a request, you only need to import the IAMClient and
the commands you need, for example AddClientIDToOpenIDConnectProviderCommand:

We recommend using await operator to wait for the promise returned by send operation as follows:

Async-await is clean, concise, intuitive, easy to debug and has better error handling as compared to using Promise chains or callbacks.
You can also use Promise chaining to execute send operation.

Promises can also be called using .catch() and .finally() as follows:

We do not recommend using callbacks because of callback hell, but they are supported by the send operation.

The client can also send requests using v2 compatible style. However, it results in a bigger bundle size and may be dropped in next major version. More details in the blog post on modular packages in AWS SDK for JavaScript
