@aws-sdk/client-sts
Description
AWS SDK for JavaScript STS Client for Node.js, Browser and React Native.
Security Token Service
Amazon Web Services provides Security Token Service (STS) as a web service that enables you to request temporary,
limited-privilege credentials for users. This guide describes the STS API. For more
information, see Temporary Security Credentials
in the IAM User Guide.
As an alternative to using the API, you can use one of the Amazon Web Services SDKs, which consist of
libraries and sample code for various programming languages and platforms such as Java,
Ruby, .NET, iOS, Android, and others. The SDKs provide a convenient way to create
programmatic access to STS. For example, the SDKs can cryptographically sign requests,
manage errors, and retry requests automatically. For information about the Amazon Web Services SDKs, see
Tools to Build on Amazon Web Services.
For information about setting up signatures and authorization through the API, see Signing Amazon Web Services
API Requests in the Amazon Web Services General Reference. For general information
about the Query API, see Making Query Requests in the
IAM User Guide. For information about using security tokens with
other Amazon Web Services products, see Amazon Web Services Services
That Work with IAM in the IAM User Guide.
For information about STS endpoints, see STS Regions and
endpoints in the IAM User Guide. For information about
logging STS API calls, see Logging IAM and STS API calls
with CloudTrail in the IAM User Guide.
Installing
To install this package, use the CLI of your favorite package manager:
npm install @aws-sdk/client-sts
yarn add @aws-sdk/client-sts
pnpm add @aws-sdk/client-sts
Getting Started
Import
The AWS SDK is modulized by clients and commands.
To send a request, you only need to import the STSClient and
the commands you need, for example GetCallerIdentityCommand:
const { STSClient, GetCallerIdentityCommand } = require("@aws-sdk/client-sts");
import { STSClient, GetCallerIdentityCommand } from "@aws-sdk/client-sts";
Usage
To send a request:
- Instantiate a client with configuration (e.g. credentials, region).
- Instantiate a command with input parameters.
- Call the
send operation on the client, providing the command object as input.
const client = new STSClient({ region: "REGION" });
const params = { };
const command = new GetCallerIdentityCommand(params);
Async/await
We recommend using the await
operator to wait for the promise returned by send operation as follows:
try {
const data = await client.send(command);
} catch (error) {
} finally {
}
Promises
You can also use Promise chaining.
client
.send(command)
.then((data) => {
})
.catch((error) => {
})
.finally(() => {
});
Aggregated client
The aggregated client class is exported from the same package, but without the "Client" suffix.
STS extends STSClient and additionally supports all operations, waiters, and paginators as methods.
This style may be familiar to you from the AWS SDK for JavaScript v2.
If you are bundling the AWS SDK, we recommend using only the bare-bones client (STSClient).
More details are in the blog post on
modular packages in AWS SDK for JavaScript.
import { STS } from "@aws-sdk/client-sts";
const client = new STS({ region: "REGION" });
try {
const data = await client.getCallerIdentity(params);
} catch (error) {
}
client
.getCallerIdentity(params)
.then((data) => {
})
.catch((error) => {
});
client.getCallerIdentity(params, (err, data) => {
});
Troubleshooting
When the service returns an exception, the error will include the exception information,
as well as response metadata (e.g. request id).
try {
const data = await client.send(command);
} catch (error) {
const { requestId, cfId, extendedRequestId } = error.$metadata;
console.log({ requestId, cfId, extendedRequestId });
}

Getting Help
Please use these community resources for getting help.
We use GitHub issues for tracking bugs and feature requests, but have limited bandwidth to address them.

Contributing
This client code is generated automatically. Any modifications will be overwritten the next time the @aws-sdk/client-sts package is updated.
