The @aws-sdk/region-config-resolver package is part of the AWS SDK for JavaScript (v3). It provides utilities to resolve AWS region configurations in a flexible manner. This package is particularly useful when building applications that need to interact with various AWS services across different regions.
Resolving region configuration
This feature allows the automatic resolution of the AWS region by checking environment variables, AWS configuration files, and other sources. It simplifies handling region-specific configurations in your application.
const { defaultRegionResolver } = require('@aws-sdk/region-config-resolver');
const region = defaultRegionResolver();
console.log(region);
Custom region resolution
This feature enables developers to define custom strategies for resolving the AWS region, such as prioritizing environment variables or specific profiles in shared configuration files. It provides flexibility in how regions are determined based on the application's needs.
const { fromEnv, fromSharedConfigFiles } = require('@aws-sdk/region-config-resolver');
const customRegion = fromEnv() || fromSharedConfigFiles({ profile: 'myProfile' });
console.log(customRegion);
This package handles the resolution and provision of AWS credentials rather than regions. It is similar in that it also deals with configuration for AWS services, but focuses on authentication instead of regional settings.
While primarily a client library for Amazon S3, this package includes utilities for handling region-specific endpoints. It is similar to @aws-sdk/region-config-resolver in that it also needs to manage region data, but it is specific to S3 interactions.
An internal package
This package provides utilities for AWS region config resolvers.
You probably shouldn't, at least directly.
