Automated one-command setup for Claude Desktop with custom third-party inference gateways.

Easily configure Claude Desktop to route requests through custom or enterprise AI gateways (such as https://api-anthropic.help, LiteLLM, or corporate proxies) without manual developer mode toggling or file editing.

⚡ Quick Start

Users can simply open PowerShell (Windows) or Terminal (macOS/Linux) and run:

npx @decoopus/claude-setup

It will prompt for their API key:

📖 CLI Usage

Usage:
  npx @decoopus/claude-setup [apiKey] [options]

Arguments:
  apiKey                   Your gateway API key (will prompt if omitted)

Options:
  -k, --key <key>          Specify API key
  -u, --url <url>          Gateway base URL (default: https://api-anthropic.help)
  -c, --clean              Clear cached web login session (forces fresh gateway start)
  -r, --revert             Remove custom gateway configuration (restore default Claude)
  -s, --status             Display current Claude Desktop gateway configuration
  -y, --yes                Automatic yes to prompts (non-interactive mode)
  -h, --help               Show help message

Examples

Non-interactive configuration (CI / automated scripts)

npx @decoopus/claude-setup sk-your-key-here -y

Custom Gateway Endpoint

npx @decoopus/claude-setup sk-your-key-here --url https://your-gateway.example.com

Check Current Status

🛠 What This Command Does Behind the Scenes

Normally, manual configuration requires:

• Logging out of Claude Desktop
• Clicking the menu (☰) → Help → Troubleshooting → Enable Developer Mode
• Waiting for restart
• Opening Developer → Configure Third-Party Inference
• Entering the base URL, authorization scheme, and API key
• Applying changes and restarting Claude Desktop

This tool automates the entire process in one click by setting:

• Windows Registry Policy: HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Claude
  • inferenceProvider = gateway
  • inferenceGatewayBaseUrl = https://api-anthropic.help
  • inferenceGatewayApiKey = <your-api-key>
  • inferenceGatewayAuthScheme = bearer
  • inferenceModels = Configures standard Claude models (3.7 Sonnet, 3.5 Sonnet, 3.5 Haiku, 3 Opus)
• Local Configuration Files:
  • Updates claude_desktop_config.json in standard AppData, LocalAppData Claude-3p, and MSIX packaged directories.
• Session Cookies:
  • Optionally resets cached web auth cookies so Claude Desktop opens directly into Gateway mode.
