@forkbit/mcp
Official Model Context Protocol server for the
Forkbit API — gives AI agents direct access to food search, nutrition
parsing, and recipe analysis.
Install & run
FORKBIT_API_KEY=sk_live_... npx @forkbit/mcp
Get an API key from your Forkbit dashboard. The server communicates over stdio and exits
immediately with a clear error if FORKBIT_API_KEY is missing.
Optional: FORKBIT_BASE_URL overrides the API base URL (defaults to
https://api.forkbit.io) — useful for pointing at a local or staging API during development.
Claude Desktop setup
Add to your Claude Desktop config (claude_desktop_config.json):
{
"mcpServers": {
"forkbit": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@forkbit/mcp"],
"env": {
"FORKBIT_API_KEY": "sk_live_..."
}
}
}
}
Tools
search_foods | Search the food database by name | 1 per call |

Every tool description in the server itself states expected latency and when to prefer it over a
sibling tool — read those in your MCP client for the full guidance an agent sees.
