vlt Debuts New JavaScript Package Manager and Serverless Registry at NodeConf EU
vlt introduced its new package manager and a serverless registry this week, innovating in a space where npm has stagnated.
@storybook/node-logger
Advanced tools
Any node logging that is done through storybook should be done through this package.
The @storybook/node-logger package is a utility for logging within the Storybook ecosystem, specifically tailored for Node.js environments. It provides a standardized way to handle logging across different parts of Storybook applications, making it easier to debug and maintain code.
Customizable logging levels
This feature allows developers to log messages at different levels (info, warn, error), which can be useful for filtering logs based on their importance or severity.
const { logger } = require('@storybook/node-logger');
logger.info('Information message');
logger.warn('Warning message');
logger.error('Error message');
Consistent log formatting
Ensures that all log messages follow a consistent format, making it easier to read and analyze logs.
const { logger } = require('@storybook/node-logger');
logger.info('Starting application...');
logger.error('Failed to start application');
Winston is a multi-transport async logging library for Node.js. Compared to @storybook/node-logger, Winston offers more flexibility and customization options, including multiple storage options for logs, custom log levels, and the ability to query logged data.
Bunyan is a simple and fast JSON logging library for Node.js services. It provides a similar structured logging approach as @storybook/node-logger but with additional features like log rotation, stream-based logging, and a dedicated CLI for better log viewing.
Any node logging that is done through storybook should be done through this package.
Examples:
import { logger } from '@storybook/node-logger';
logger.info('Info message');
logger.warn('Warning message');
logger.error('Error message');

7.0.0-beta.0 (December 8, 2022)
We made it to beta, folks! 🎉
SB7 overhauls our build architecture, modernizes our output to ESM only, promotes Vite to a first-class peer to Webpack, rethinks our Docs addon, cleans up the UI, and contains hundreds of improvements at every level of the stack. We've been sharing some of these changes on the Storybook blog and will share more over the coming weeks.
Beta means that we don't have any more major changes on the radar for 7.0 and it's mostly stabilization from here on out. The core team is doing some basic testing now, and once we have a good QA plan, we'd love your help to make that happen. Please keep an eye out on the blog and on our Twitter or Mastadon (coming soon!) or Discord if you're interested in helping.
