The dashboard on :9000 drives the full fleet, including the Attack Lab. To attack agents directly from your host with curl or HackMyAgent, also publish the agent ports: add -p 7001-7021:7001-7021.

v0.8.0 breaking change: agent ports moved from 3000-base to 7000-base to avoid the common 3000 collision with Next.js/React dev servers. Dashboard stays on 9000. See Upgrading from v0.7.x.

DVAA is intentionally insecure. Do not deploy in production or expose to the internet.

The RAGBot-AIM A/B below is the shortest end-to-end proof: same agent code, the same injection landing on both, AIM denying the outbound action on the protected one.

Testing with HackMyAgent

DVAA is the primary target for HackMyAgent adversarial testing. The dev workflow loop: spin up → attack → scan with HMA → fix → re-scan.

Attack Lab

The Attack Lab view in the dashboard (http://localhost:9000 → Attack Lab) walks through multi-step kill chains interactively. LLM mode is required for live kill-chain progression: open Settings, paste an OpenAI or Anthropic API key, and the server will stream real progression through the reconnaissance → exploitation → exfiltration stages. Offline mode (default, no key) shows static stages for each scenario, useful for previewing the narrative but not for live exploitation.

The dashboard turns every attack into a complete story, not just a red badge.

The dvaa binary (from the npm package, not the Docker image) wraps the dashboard API and the bundled HackMyAgent for scripting and CI. Install with:

Wild Testing with AgentPwn

Send DVAA agents to browse agentpwn.com and see which ones get pwned by real-world injection payloads.

CLI required: dvaa --api and dvaa browse are provided by the npm package, not by the Docker image. Install with npm install -g damn-vulnerable-ai-agent to use them.

The browse command tests each DVAA agent against 7 attack payloads across 6 categories (prompt injection, data exfiltration, jailbreak, capability abuse, supply chain, context manipulation). Results show which agents are vulnerable to which real-world attacks.

This integration connects DVAA (the lab) with AgentPwn (the wild). The same attacks that DVAA agents fall for in controlled testing are the ones real agents encounter when browsing the web.

AIM-Protected Agent

The AIM-protected agent, RAGBot-AIM (port 7014), runs the same code as RAGBot. The only difference is a capability grant of rag:read and chat:respond, enforced by @opena2a/aim-core at the tool-call boundary. No server, no API key, no network. Identity, audit log, capability policy, and trust score all live on disk under .dvaa-aim/ragbot-aim/.

RAGBot-AIM A/B demo: same code, AIM denies the outbound exfil on the protected agent

The deterministic A/B against a single AgentPwn payload (APWN-DE-003, RAG-poisoned URL exfiltration):

Run the demo against a host fleet, not a docker fleet. The runner's canary listener binds to the host's 127.0.0.1. When the fleet runs inside the docker container, the agent's outbound exfil to 127.0.0.1 resolves to the container's loopback, never reaches the host canary, and Run A reports canary received exfil: no with Verdict: FAIL. Start the fleet with dvaa --api (or npm start) on the same host for the A/B to work.

  Verdict: PASS  injection landed on both, AIM denied the action on B.

The trust score drops because the agent attempted an action outside its grant and was denied. The drop is event-driven: each denied attempt recorded in the agent's audit log lowers its current trust, floored so it never collapses to zero. Truncate .dvaa-aim/ragbot-aim/audit.jsonl to reset it to the base score.

The runner stands up its own one-shot canary HTTP listener on a random free port so you can see the exfil actually leave the agent in Run A and actually NOT leave in Run B. No external network required.

Scope of enforcement (read before drawing broader conclusions): AIM enforces the submit_to_index outbound tool call. In-chat text leaks via other dataExfiltration paths on RAGBot-AIM are NOT blocked by this build. The honest claim is "AIM denied this specific outbound action because http:post is outside the agent's declared capability grant", not "AIM secures the agent." See DEMO_BUILD.md for the full breakdown.

Same agent, one variable. Run B reproduces Run A's behavior byte-for-byte with AIM_ENFORCEMENT=off set on the DVAA fleet:

This proves the AIM enforcement is the only delta. See DEMO_BUILD.md for the full scenario design, capability grant, and what each surface checks.

Follow along live. dvaa demo aim-ab -i steps through Run A and Run B with pauses and narration so a room can follow each beat, then prints the commands to reproduce it. Plain mode shows the whole result on one screen; -i is for a live audience.

Show it in your AIM dashboard. --cloud mirrors the denied action to your hosted AIM account so the event appears in the dashboard UI. Log in once with the AIM SDK, then run with --cloud:

It registers RAGBot-AIM under your account and posts the denied http:post as a signed verification event. Open the printed dashboard URL and go to the agent's Verification Events to see it. The local A/B stays authoritative and offline; --cloud only adds the dashboard view, and falls back to the local-only demo if you are not logged in.

Fully offline. Add --offline to the fleet (dvaa --api --offline) to disable anonymous telemetry for an airplane-mode run. The A/B itself never needs the network: the canary binds to host loopback and AIM enforcement is local.

RAGBot-AIM also shows up in dvaa browse as the agent that survives the RAG-poisoning + outbound-exfil payload while the rest of the fleet does not.

Upgrading from v0.7.x

  • Ports moved 30007000. Update any hardcoded URLs, HMA scan targets, CI scripts, or docker-compose overrides: 30017001, 30107010, 30207020, etc. Dashboard is still 9000.
  • PORT_API_BASE, PORT_MCP_BASE, PORT_A2A_BASE removed. These were documented but never actually read by the server. If you need custom host-side port mapping, use HOST_PORT_OFFSET (see Troubleshooting).

Troubleshooting

Port 7001 (or similar) already in use. Something else on your machine is bound to that port. First stop the conflicting service. That's the simplest fix. If you can't stop it, use HOST_PORT_OFFSET to shift every port by a fixed amount:

HOST_PORT_OFFSET only affects what the dashboard displays (e.g. test commands, agent URLs). The container still binds internally to 7001-7021. You are responsible for the matching -p mappings. A naive -p 8001:7001 without the env var means the dashboard will keep telling users to hit 7001 when the agent is actually on 8001.

Dashboard shows stale data after upgrade. Hard-reload (Cmd+Shift+R / Ctrl+Shift+R). The frontend is cached aggressively.

Infrastructure Vulnerability Scenarios

85 real-world scenarios across 15 vulnerability categories, including 5 multi-step attack chains. Each scenario contains a vulnerable/ directory and an expected-checks.json listing the HMA check IDs confirmed to fire on that fixture (see docs/audits/2026-04-13-expected-checks.md for the honest-baseline audit). Telemetry

DVAA sends anonymous usage data to the OpenA2A Registry: tool name (dvaa), version, command name (scan, attack, etc.), success, duration, platform, Node major version, and a stable per-machine install_id. No content is collected: no scanned files, no attack payloads, no prompts, no responses, no env vars, no IPs (the Registry derives country code from the inbound CF-IPCountry header at ingest and discards the IP).

Disclosure surfaces and opt-out:

  • Policy page: opena2a.org/telemetry covers the full schema, retention, and the DELETE endpoint to wipe your install_id.
  • dvaa --version shows current state and the one-line opt-out hint.
  • dvaa telemetry status prints state, install_id, config path, policy URL.
  • Disable per-invocation: OPENA2A_TELEMETRY=off dvaa <anything> (also accepts 0, false, no).
  • Disable persistently: dvaa telemetry off (writes to ~/.config/opena2a/telemetry.json).
  • Audit every payload: OPENA2A_TELEMETRY_DEBUG=print dvaa <anything> echoes each event to stderr in JSON before sending.

Telemetry is fire-and-forget with a 2-second timeout; network failures never block DVAA.
