a) Negative numbers or around "0" indicate texts which are very difficult to read.
b) Numbers around "100" indicate very easy texts.
Calculating is triggered by editing action or by pushing the button.
On the command line, run npm install ep_readability.
Alternatively, browse to http://yourEtherpadliteInstan.ce/admin/plugins, search for ep_readability and click install.
After restarting the server, the plugin takes effect.
