Internet Archive Hacked, 31 Million Record Compromised
The Internet Archive's "Wayback Machine" has been hacked and defaced, with 31 millions records compromised.
Fast and powerful CSV parser for the browser that supports web workers and streaming large files. Converts CSV to JSON and JSON to CSV.
Papa Parse is a powerful, in-browser CSV (Comma Separated Values) parser which enables you to parse CSV files and strings. It can handle large files, and provides a variety of configuration options to customize the parsing process. It also supports converting JSON to CSV, making it a versatile tool for data processing in JavaScript applications.
CSV Parsing
This feature allows you to parse CSV strings. The 'complete' callback function is called after parsing is finished, and the 'results' object contains the parsed data.
Papa.parse(csvString, {
complete: function(results) {
console.log('Parsed results:', results.data);
}
});
CSV File Parsing
This feature is used to parse CSV files directly from a file input. It reads the file using the FileReader API and parses its contents.
Papa.parse(fileInput.files[0], {
complete: function(results) {
console.log('Parsed file results:', results.data);
}
});
Stream Parsing
Stream parsing allows you to parse CSV data row by row. The 'step' callback is called for each row parsed, which is useful for processing large files without loading the entire file into memory.
Papa.parse(csvString, {
step: function(row) {
console.log('Row:', row.data);
},
complete: function() {
console.log('All rows parsed!');
}
});
Unparsing (JSON to CSV)
Unparsing is the process of converting JSON data into a CSV string. This is useful for generating CSV files from JSON data structures.
var csv = Papa.unparse([{"column1": "value1", "column2": "value2"}]);
console.log(csv);
csv-parser is a Node.js module that transforms CSV into readable streams. It is fast and simple to use, but unlike Papa Parse, it is primarily designed for Node.js environments and does not work in the browser.
fast-csv is another Node.js library for parsing and formatting CSVs. It provides a similar set of features to Papa Parse, including support for streams and a flexible API, but it is also focused on Node.js rather than the browser.
csvtojson is a full-featured CSV parser library that converts CSV to JSON. One of its main differences from Papa Parse is that it returns a promise interface, which can be more convenient for asynchronous operations in modern JavaScript development.
Author's note:
As you probably know, life is busy, and it's taking me to other fields of research and development.
Papa Parse has been an incredible journey and I've learned a lot while I was developing it. It has served tens of thousands of developers and millions of end users. Wikipedia, the United Nations, various national and state governments around the world, academic institutions, research teams, and other non-profits---not to mention commercial entities---all use (or have used) Papa Parse to some extent for data processing. They use Papa Parse because it's the fastest correct CSV parser for the browser and the easiest to use, with the most advanced performance features for big files. I'm really happy with that.
I've begun graduate school and will spend about two years on my masters degree. That, along with Caddy, will keep me occupied during my work day in the foreseeable future.
While I'm not relinquishing ownership of this project, who would like to take over in leading its development? Respond to issues and pull requests, deploy new releases, implement bug fixes -- keep it maintained.
Preferably somebody who has some experience with managing open source projects... this one is a little big for a brand new entrant, I feel... bonus points if you have a passion about high-performance CSV parsing. 😄
The new lead maintainer will of course be granted Collaborator status here and permission to publish to npm.
If there is more than one person interested in adopting this project, I'm sure the new lead maintainer would love to have some help. We can have multiple maintainers, but there should be one lead maintainer.
Email me if you are interested in becoming the lead maintainer of Papa Parse. It would help if you explain why and what plans you have for it or what you'd like to accomplish, what your priorities are, etc. Doesn't have to be fancy; just has to gain my trust. 😉
Thank you for using Papa Parse.
Papa Parse is the fastest in-browser CSV (or delimited text) parser for JavaScript. It is reliable and correct according to RFC 4180, and it comes with these features:
<input type="file">
elementsPapa Parse has no dependencies - not even jQuery.
To learn how to use Papa Parse:
Rich Harris forked this project to make Baby Parse which runs in Node.js environments.
$ npm install babyparse
Use it just like Papa Parse. However:
Otherwise, Baby Parse has nearly all the same functionality as Papa Parse 4.0, including the unparse()
utility.
Use papaparse.min.js for production.
For usage instructions, see the homepage and, for more detail, the documentation.
Papa Parse is under test. Download this repository, run npm install
, then npm test
to run the tests in your browser.
To discuss a new feature or ask a question, open an issue. To fix a bug, submit a pull request to be credited with the contributors! Remember, a pull request, with test, is best. You may also discuss on Twitter with #PapaParse or directly to me, @mholt6.
