The Material Components for the web circular progress component
@material/circular-progress is a Material Design implementation of a circular progress indicator. It provides a visual representation of the progress of a task or process, which can be either determinate or indeterminate.
Determinate Circular Progress
This feature allows you to create a determinate circular progress indicator, where the progress value is specified as a fraction between 0 and 1.
<mwc-circular-progress progress="0.5"></mwc-circular-progress>
Indeterminate Circular Progress
This feature allows you to create an indeterminate circular progress indicator, which is used when the progress of a task is unknown.
<mwc-circular-progress indeterminate></mwc-circular-progress>
Customizing Size and Density
This feature allows you to customize the size and density of the circular progress indicator. The `density` attribute adjusts the thickness, and the `--mdc-circular-progress-size` CSS variable sets the size.
<mwc-circular-progress density="-2" style="--mdc-circular-progress-size: 48px;"></mwc-circular-progress>
react-circular-progressbar is a React component for creating circular progress bars. It offers similar functionality to @material/circular-progress but is specifically designed for React applications. It provides more customization options for the appearance of the progress bar.
nprogress is a lightweight progress bar library for web applications. While it primarily provides a linear progress bar, it can be customized to create circular progress indicators. It is less feature-rich compared to @material/circular-progress but is very lightweight and easy to use.
progressbar.js is a library for creating progress bars of various shapes, including circular. It offers extensive customization options and animations, making it more versatile than @material/circular-progress. However, it may require more effort to set up and use.
The MDC Circular Progress component is a spec-aligned circular progress indicator component adhering to the Material Design progress & activity requirements.

Progress bars conform to the WAI-ARIA Progressbar Specification. The supported ARIA attributes for this progress bar are:
Attribute | Description |
---|---|
aria-label | Label indicating how the progress bar should be announced to the user. |
aria-valuemin | The minimum numeric value of the progress bar, which should always be 0 . |
aria-valuemax | The maximum numeric value of the progress bar, which should always be 1 . |
aria-valuenow | A numeric value between aria-valuemin and aria-valuemax indicating the progress value of the primary progress bar. This attribute is removed in indeterminate progress bars. |
Note that aria-label
, aria-valuemin
, and aria-valuemax
are static and must be configured in the HTML. aria-valuenow
is updated dynamically by the foundation when the progress value is updated in determinate progress bars.
@use "@material/circular-progress/mdc-circular-progress";
import { MDCCircularProgress } from '@material/circular-progress';
const circularProgress = new MDCCircularProgress(document.querySelector('.mdc-circular-progress'));
See Importing the JS component for more information on how to import JavaScript.
To set the stroke-width and container size strictly to one of three sizes defined by guidelines, replace the templates with the following.

You may choose to have the indicator in inderminate state animate through 4 colors. The template for the four-colored indicator is like that of the baseline, except the spinner layer is replicated 4 times, 1 for each color. See Sass-Mixins for how to customize the four colors. This is done instead of animating the color property to reduce browser repaints.
