Best Practices
-
Step Design: Keep each step focused on a single action or piece of information to avoid overwhelming users.
-
Content: Use clear, concise language in your step content. Avoid jargon and provide context where necessary.
-
Timing: Consider when to trigger the onboarding. It doesn't always have to start immediately upon app load.
-
User Control: Always provide a way for users to exit or skip the onboarding process.
-
Persistence: Use the syncOnboardingState
function to save progress, allowing users to continue where they left off in future sessions.
-
Responsiveness: Ensure your onboarding UI is responsive and works well on different screen sizes.
-
Testing: Thoroughly test your onboarding flow to ensure all steps are reachable and functioning correctly.
Customization
The React Onboarding Tool Kit is designed to be highly customizable. You can create your own tooltip component to replace the default OnboardingTooltip
, or add custom styling to the OnboardingStep
component for different highlighting effects.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues:
- Ensure all components are wrapped inside the
OnboardingProvider
. - Check that your step indices match the order of your steps array.
- Verify that
setActive(true)
is called when you want to start the onboarding.
