What is remark-lint-ordered-list-marker-style?
The remark-lint-ordered-list-marker-style package is a plugin for remark-lint that enforces a consistent marker style for ordered lists in Markdown files. It helps maintain a uniform style by ensuring that ordered lists use either a period (.) or a parenthesis ()) after the list marker.
What are remark-lint-ordered-list-marker-style's main functionalities?
Enforce period marker style
This configuration enforces the use of a period (.) after the list marker in ordered lists. For example, '1. Item' instead of '1) Item'.
module.exports = {
plugins: [
['remark-lint-ordered-list-marker-style', 'period']
]
};
Enforce parenthesis marker style
This configuration enforces the use of a parenthesis ()) after the list marker in ordered lists. For example, '1) Item' instead of '1. Item'.
module.exports = {
plugins: [
['remark-lint-ordered-list-marker-style', 'parenthesis']
]
};

remark-lint
remark-lint is a general-purpose Markdown linter that provides a wide range of rules for enforcing consistent Markdown styles. While it includes rules for ordered list markers, it also covers many other aspects of Markdown formatting, making it a more comprehensive tool compared to remark-lint-ordered-list-marker-style.
markdownlint
markdownlint is a Node.js style checker and lint tool for Markdown files. It offers a variety of rules for ensuring consistent Markdown formatting, including rules for ordered list markers. It is similar to remark-lint but is a standalone tool rather than a plugin for remark.
markdown-it
markdown-it is a Markdown parser that can be extended with plugins to enforce various styles and rules. While it is primarily a parser, it can be configured with plugins to enforce ordered list marker styles, making it a versatile tool for Markdown processing.

API
This package exports no identifiers.
The default export is remarkLintOrderedListMarkerStyle
.
This rule supports standard configuration that all remark lint rules accept
(such as false
to turn it off or [1, options]
to configure it).
The following options (default: 'consistent'
) are accepted:
'.'
— prefer dots')'
— prefer parens'consistent'
— detect the first used style and warn when further markers differ
Recommendation
Parens for list markers were not supported in markdown before CommonMark.
While they should work in most places now, not all markdown parsers follow
CommonMark.
Due to this, it’s recommended to prefer dots.
Fix
remark-stringify
formats ordered lists with dots by default.
Pass
bulletOrdered: ')'
to always use parens.
