Bootstrap Forms makes Twitter's Bootstrap on Rails easy to use by creating helpful form builders that minimize markup in your views.

Hirb provides a mini view framework for console applications and uses it to improve ripl(irb)'s default inspect output. Given an object or array of objects, hirb renders a view based on the object's class and/or ancestry. Hirb offers reusable views in the form of helper classes. The two main helpers, Hirb::Helpers::Table and Hirb::Helpers::Tree, provide several options for generating ascii tables and trees. Using Hirb::Helpers::AutoTable, hirb has useful default views for at least ten popular database gems i.e. Rails' ActiveRecord::Base. Other than views, hirb offers a smart pager and a console menu. The smart pager only pages when the output exceeds the current screen size. The menu is used in conjunction with tables to offer two dimensional menus.

The Mechanize library is used for automating interaction with websites. Mechanize automatically stores and sends cookies, follows redirects, and can follow links and submit forms. Form fields can be populated and submitted. Mechanize also keeps track of the sites that you have visited as a history.

Have you ever wanted to call <code>exit()</code> with an error condition, but weren't sure what exit status to use? No? Maybe it's just me, then. Anyway, I was reading manpages late one evening before retiring to bed in my palatial estate in rural Oregon, and I stumbled across <code>sysexits(3)</code>. Much to my chagrin, I couldn't find a +sysexits+ for Ruby! Well, for the other 2 people that actually care about <code>style(9)</code> as it applies to Ruby code, now there is one! Sysexits is a *completely* *awesome* collection of human-readable constants for the standard (BSDish) exit codes, used as arguments to +exit+ to indicate a specific error condition to the parent process. It's so fantastically fabulous that you'll want to fork it right away to avoid being thought of as that guy that's still using Webrick for his blog. I mean, <code>exit(1)</code> is so passé! This is like the 14-point font of Systems Programming. Like the C header file from which this was derived (I mean forked, naturally), error numbers begin at <code>Sysexits::EX__BASE</code> (which is way more cool than plain old +64+) to reduce the possibility of clashing with other exit statuses that other programs may already return. The codes are available in two forms: as constants which can be imported into your own namespace via <code>include Sysexits</code>, or as <code>Sysexits::STATUS_CODES</code>, a Hash keyed by Symbols derived from the constant names. Allow me to demonstrate. First, the old way: exit( 69 ) Whaaa...? Is that a euphemism? What's going on? See how unattractive and... well, 1970 that is? We're not changing vaccuum tubes here, people, we're <em>building a totally-awesome future in the Cloud™!</em> include Sysexits exit EX_UNAVAILABLE Okay, at least this is readable to people who have used <code>fork()</code> more than twice, but you could do so much better! include Sysexits exit :unavailable Holy Toledo! It's like we're writing Ruby, but our own made-up dialect in which variable++ is possible! Well, okay, it's not quite that cool. But it does look more Rubyish. And no monkeys were patched in the filming of this episode! All the simpletons still exiting with icky _numbers_ can still continue blithely along, none the wiser.

Rodauth is Ruby's most advanced authentication framework, designed to work in all rack applications. It's built using Roda and Sequel, but it can be used as middleware in front of web applications that use other web frameworks and database libraries. Rodauth aims to provide strong security for password storage by utilizing separate database accounts if possible on PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. Configuration is done via a DSL that makes it easy to override any part of the authentication process. Rodauth supports typical authentication features: such as login and logout, changing logins and passwords, and creating, verifying, unlocking, and resetting passwords for accounts. Rodauth also supports many advanced authentication features: * Secure password storage using security definer database functions * Multiple primary multifactor authentication methods (WebAuthn and TOTP), as well as backup multifactor authentication methods (SMS and recovery codes). * Passwordless authentication using email links and WebAuthn authenticators. * Both standard HTML form and JSON API support for all features.

If you are tracking any kind of assets the currencies gem is for you. It contains every currency in the ISO 4217 standard and allows you to add your own as well. So if you decide to take sparkly buttons as a form of payment you can use currencies to display the shiny button unicode symbol ☼ (disclaimer: ☼ may not look like a shiny button to everyone.) when used with something like the money gem. Speaking of the money gem, currencies gives you an ExchangeBank that the money gem can use to convert from one currency to another. There are plans to have ExchangeRate provider plugin system. Right now the rates are either set manually or pulled from Yahoo Finance.

FireWatir stands for "Web Application Testing in Ruby for Firefox". FireWatir (pronounced firewater) is a free, open-source functional testing tool for automating browser-based tests of web applications. It works with applications written in any language. FireWatir drives the Firefox browser the same way an end user would. It clicks links, fills in forms, presses buttons. FireWatir also checks results, such as whether expected text appears on the page, or whether a control is enabled. FireWatir is a Ruby library that works with Firefox on Windows. It also works on Linux, Mac but without support for JavaScript popups (currently support will be there shortly).
