• component: A class or function that processes data
• port: An data entry or exit point of a component
• input: A port that accepts incoming data to a component
• output: A port that sends outgoing data from a component
• node: An instance of a component in a network
• connection: A channel that connects two nodes
• network: A group of nodes and connections
• subnet: A network inside another network
• intranet: The private connections within the network
• gateway: The public input and output ports of a network
• runtime: The topology (layout) of a network's nodes and connections
